The Sun-Gard Automotive Advantage
High
Performance and Dyed Tints
Technology
continues to improve in the window film industry. Better adhesives,
better SCR coatings and better performing window film products. High
performance (a.k.a. metallized or HP) automotive films have quickly
become many installers tint of choice in the last few years, here are
the differences.
Dyed
Auto Tints
Dyed
auto tints are films with dye in the film and/or in the adhesive. They
come with a minimum standard three-year warranty. Courage offers
Sun-Gard®
Shadow as a quality-dyed film that comes with a
lifetime warranty, All other films are HP.
High
Performance Tints
HP
tints have applied metal coatings to better protect the film from color
change and other decaying effects caused by the sun. The advantages of
the metal layer are that the film will last longer (HP films come with a
lifetime warranty) and it stops more of the sun's heat. For example a
dyed 20% tint stops approximately 39% of the heat while it's HP
counterpart stops approximately 53%.

Automotive
Window Film Adhesives
Sun-Gard
is the only window film in the industry that offers the professional
automotive installer two types of adhesives. You choose what's best for
you. Pressure Sensitive (or PS) is a tacky to the touch adhesive that
works by physically sticking to the glass immediately. P.S. is
relatively soft and tacky by nature and is a more "aggressive"
adhesive.
Detackified
Pressure Sensitive adhesives (or DPS) have a thin polymer coating that
has been applied over the tacky P.S. to make the film tack free for
easier handling. This polymer coating dissolves in the mounting
solution, which is washed and squeegeed away to expose the underlying PS
adhesive, which then sticks to the glass. DPS is also relatively soft
and tacky by nature and is less "aggressive" than PS.
There is no right or wrong adhesive. You choose what is right for you.
